Short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the board, recognise you in chat, unlock membership content, and build community statistics. We do not sell your data, we do not run advertising trackers, and we never see your payment details. Everything below explains it precisely.
Contents
1. Who runs this site
CG Rush is an independent educational project about 3D graphics, run by Ivan Ivashchenko. It publishes a visual learning board, articles, and community-built statistics at cgboards.com.
For anything in this policy, contact: vaveynkerst@gmail.com or our Discord server.
2. What we collect
You can read the board and every free article without an account. We only collect the data below once you choose to sign in or take part.
2.1 Account data (when you sign in)
Signing in is handled by Discord or Google — we never see or store your password. From them we receive and store:
- your email address;
- your display name and avatar;
- a provider account ID used to recognise you on return visits.
If you sign in with Discord, we additionally read which roles you hold on the CG Rush Discord server. This is used only to check whether you have an active membership tier. We do not read your Discord messages, friend list, or any other server you belong to.
2.2 Things you create on the site
| Data | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Chat messages | Your message text, display name, timestamp, and (if you reply) a quote of the message you replied to. Visible to everyone on the board. |
| Reactions & votes | Which emoji you reacted with and which option you voted for on a block. |
| Learning progress | Which blocks you marked as “studying” or “done”. Visible only to you. |
| Salary report | Role, experience bracket, employment type, monthly take-home amount, and country. See section 3. |
| Membership tier | The tier derived from your Discord role, so premium content can unlock. |
2.3 Technical data
Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) and our backend provider (Supabase) keep standard server logs — including IP address and browser type — for security, abuse prevention and aggregate traffic statistics. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or profiling.
3. Salary survey — how anonymity works
Technically it works like this:
- Database security rules (row-level security) mean each account can read only its own row.
- The public page reads from aggregate views only — counts, averages and medians grouped by role, experience, employment and region. Individual rows are never sent to the browser.
- The site administrator can view raw rows solely for moderation — to remove obvious trolling or impossible figures that would distort the statistics. Those rows contain no name, only role, experience, employment, amount and country.
- You can delete or change your report at any time by returning to the page, or by asking us (section 8).
Because reports are self-declared and unverified, the statistics are indicative only and are not career, financial or salary-negotiation advice.
4. Why we process it
- To provide the service — show your name in chat, keep your progress, remember your settings.
- To operate memberships — check your Discord role so premium content unlocks for supporters.
- To build community statistics — the salary page exists only because people contribute to it.
- To keep the place usable — moderation, spam and abuse prevention, security.
For visitors in the EU/EEA and the UK: our legal bases are performance of a contract (running the account and membership you asked for), legitimate interests (security and moderation) and consent (optional contributions such as chat and the salary survey — which you give by choosing to submit).
5. Who else processes it
We use a small number of established providers. We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
| Provider | What it does for us |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication and file storage — where your account and contributions live. |
| Cloudflare | Hosting and delivery of the site; server logs and aggregate traffic stats. |
| Discord | Sign-in and membership roles; our community server. |
| Sign-in (name and email only); web fonts. | |
| Patreon | Memberships and payments. Payment details are handled entirely by Patreon — we never receive your card data. |
| YouTube / jsDelivr | Embedded videos and code libraries. Opening a video may set cookies controlled by YouTube. |
These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States.
6. Storage in your browser
We use local storage, not tracking cookies, for a handful of preferences:
- your chosen interface language;
- a local copy of your “studied/studying” marks, so they survive a reload;
- your sign-in session, kept by Supabase so you are not logged out on every visit.
Clearing your browser data removes all of it.
7. How long we keep it
- Account data — until you delete your account.
- Chat messages, reactions, votes — until you or an administrator delete them.
- Salary report — until you change or delete it, or delete your account.
- Server logs — kept for a limited period by Cloudflare and Supabase under their own policies.
8. Your rights & how to delete your data
You can ask us to:
- show you what we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and everything tied to it;
- export your data in a readable format;
- object to or restrict a particular use.
If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK and believe we mishandled your data, you may complain to your national data protection authority.
9. Children
The site is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children below that age. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
10. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we update the date at the top and announce it on the board and in Discord. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
